United Media Services was established in May 2016, it is one of the largest media entities in the entire Arab region. By owning more than 40 leading companies in various media fields such as visual, audio, print, electronic media, dramatic production, advertising, direct and indirect advertising services, it established itself as a prominent player. It also provides sports rights services and marketing. In addition, it advances meaningful media with an influential message that correspond with all societal preferences, which results to becoming the strongest integrated media system.

Ashraf Salman

Mr. Ashraf Salman currently holds the position of Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of Orascom Financial Consultancy, a company that operates through direct investment in several specified sectors. He has also been appointed as Chairman of the Board of United Media Services, which includes 40 companies operating in all media fields in Egypt, and Chairman of the Board of Cairo Three A. Additionally, he has been selected as a board member for United Media Services, Orascom Investment Holding (non-executive experienced board member), and Engineer Insurance Company. He is also a board member for the National Competitiveness Council, Dar El Fouad “Cleveland”, Meda Medical Group Dubai, and Western Union Egypt.

Mr. Ashraf Salman served as the Minister of Investment in the Arab Republic of Egypt for two years from 2014 to 2016. During this time, Mr. Salman was the Chairman of the General Authority for Investment (GAFI) and oversaw the Egyptian capital market through the Egyptian Financial Supervisory Authority (FRA) and the Egyptian Exchange (EGX). He was also a member of over 40 government committees working on investment-related issues. Mr. Salman also served on the boards of several institutions, including City Edge Properties, which is considered the Egyptian government’s arm in real estate development, as well as the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA), the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), GARPAD for Agricultural Development and Rehabilitation Projects, Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), and the Supreme Council of Tourism.

Mr. Salman joined the ministry after several years of working in the financial markets, where he gained extensive experience in investment banking and the stock market. During those years, Mr. Salman participated in financial restructuring deals, including the Diaa Al-Qubaini Group, Ceramica Sornaga Company, Egypt for Industrial Silk and Polyester Company, Nasr Pharmaceuticals Company, Egyptian Electrical Insulators Company, Egyptian Sulphur Company and Modern Egyptian Sulphur Company. Mr. Salman also participated in founding Cairo Financial Holding (CFH) and became its chairman of the board of directors, which later became one of the fastest-growing investment banks in Egypt.

Before that, he worked as the head of the Corporate Finance and Investment Banking Department at Arab African International Bank (AAIB). Prior to joining AAIB, Mr. Salman was the Managing Director of the Strategic Group for Securities Trading and a board member, where he headed the investment department. He executed several major transactions, including the acquisition of Egyptian Fertilizer Company’s consolidated facility for $600 million, issuing bonds worth EGP 1.4 billion for Orascom Construction, and issuing bonds worth EGP 2 billion for Egyptian Telecommunications Company.

Mr. Salman is a member of several boards, including the Mortgage Finance Authority, Investor Protection Fund, High Policy Committee, American Finance Association in New York, Egyptian Stock Exchange Association, and CASE Business Practices Committee.

Mr. Salman holds an MBA from the University of Birmingham in Alabama, USA, and holds a Certificate of Merit from SGS Yarsely, UK.

There are many changes that the world and the region are witnessing in the field of media and great opportunities for growth, which requires preserving Egypt’s value in the media arena, maximizing its role and benefiting from this growth.

United Media Services (UMS), with its multiple companies – 40 subsidiaries – aspires to improve the quality of the media and create an advanced Egyptian media system that produces innovative content using the latest technologies in order to be able to compete and face the current and changing challenges that will arise in the future in this vibrant and dynamic arena. This step will help restore Egypt’s leading role in the drama industry, which it has been famous for throughout the ages, in addition to the distinctive Arabic dialect, especially since Egypt has a large group of old artists in all fields.

United Media Services (UMS) has continuously expanded its business to become a comprehensive media platform. In light of the shift to digital entertainment and paid content, the company launched in May 2019 the digital platform “WATCH iT” to support this change in addition to its various media.
